About Us

Children With Hair Loss is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2000 as a resource for children who have medically related hair loss. Our founder, Regina Villemure, had a first hand experience with children’s hair loss when her niece, a 30 year cancer survivor, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at three years old. During the treatment, Regina saw other children with no hair replacements or outdated wigs. As a professional in the cosmetology industry, Regina knew how expensive hair pieces are and that most families probably couldn’t afford one. She was determined to help these children. After several years, her vision became reality.

What We Do

Our mission is to change the lives of children with hair loss by improving their outlook, empowering them with self-confidence, and renewing their self-esteem. We provide FREE human hair replacements and care kits to children with medical hair loss. Each child can receive a hairpiece, at NO COST to the family,  EVERY year until they are 21. It is through your generous hair and monetary donations that we can continue our mission of “Covering Young Heads to Heal Young Hearts.” ™

Traffic Jam Boutique:

Helping Children Feel Beautiful Again

For many years, Mikelle and Maria of Traffic Jam Boutique have donated to Children With Hair Loss. Located in Wyandotte, Michigan, Traffic Jam Boutique is known for one-of-a-kind dresses for homecoming, prom, and other occasions. As experts in the fashion world, they offered to manage our fashion show a few years back. They were so excited, they asked to do it again the year after! The show has become a yearly holiday for Children With Hair Loss and features both donors and recipients as some of the models! Traffic Jam made it their mission to help children feel beautiful and confident again. But the generosity of Traffic Jam did not stop there.

Traffic Jam Donates Portion of Prom Dress Sales

Until April 30th, 2015, $10-$20 from every prom dress sale will be donated to Children With Hair Loss. Now, you can help a child look beautiful while you look beautiful too!

For more information, you can visit Traffic Jam’s website here!

We can not thank them enough for their generosity!

Letter From a Ponytail

One Donor’s Unusual Story

A Quest for Belonging

At Children With Hair Loss, every donation is important to us. The people who donate their hair each have a story to tell and sometimes that story is extra special. We uncovered the story of one donor who wanted to encourage others to donate. She did so through a creative letter told from the point of view of her hair. That’s right. Her ponytail did all the talking. We’d like to share its story of finally finding a place where it belonged.

Meet Jennie Ellis

Jennie is no stranger to donating and volunteering. She founded a charity, with the help of her family, called CPI Haiti. The organization helps children in Haiti. But Jennie’s generous heart knew no bounds. When she discovered Children With Hair Loss, she decided to donate her sometimes unruly hair. But she took a step further: in order to encourage and engage with other donors,  she let her ponytail do the talking.

Meet Jennie’s Ponytail

Jennie’s ponytail felt neglected and unwanted because over the years, the hair had grown more and more difficult to manage. Most days, Jennie kept her ponytail tied up and out of the way. The ponytail wanted to shine and be loved! She thought about donating it before, but it was too short and dyed. But even after the ponytail was long enough, no one wanted dyed hair for a hair piece. The ponytail thought it would never have a purpose.

Then Jennie discovered Children With Hair Loss. They take dyed hair, so long as it’s eight inches or more. The ponytail was ecstatic! Together with 18 of her friends’ ponytails, Jennie’s made the voyage to Michigan where it will be given to a child in need. Finally, a child and a ponytail will both feel confident!

Thanks, Jennie!

From all of us at Children With Hair Loss, THANK YOU, JENNIE!! Not only did you donate your hair, you encouraged others to do so as well! We hope other lonely ponytails out there will read your story. CWHL will give them a purpose!
